President Trump is trying to convince his followers that Georgia’s special Senate election is “both illegal and invalid” because of a bizarre election conspiracy theory, a move that could cause trouble for the two Republicans hoping to win re-election on January 5th. In a series of tweets late Friday, Trump falsely claimed that state legislatures “are in no way responsible for the massive changes to the voting process” and that the special elections for the two seats in the Georgian Senate are, by therefore invalid. Republicans have expressed concern that Trump’s constant attacks on the Republican governor and secretary of state of Georgia, conspiracy theories of election fraud and feuds with Republicans in Congress will depress Conservative voters’ participation in special elections that could lead to Senate control .
