David Schoen, one of the president’s attorneys, had sent the Senate leadership last weekend, requesting that the trial be postponed from approximately 5:00 p.m. Friday to Sunday in order to observe the Jewish Sabbath.

But Schoen directed the Senate and Sen. ‘Because of this, you lost on Friday night and Saturday the whole day you would have liked earlier for the trial. I very much appreciated your decision, but I continued to have concerns about the delay in proceedings in a process that I consider important to bring to a successful conclusion for all concerned and for the country, ” he wrote in the letter .

“Accordingly, based on adjustments made to the president’s defense team, I am writing today to withdraw my request so that the proceedings can continue as originally contemplated before making my request,” he wrote.

Schoen added that while he will not be in attendance on Saturday, his role will be “fully covered” by other members of the defense.

The decision could add a last-minute change to the impeachment schedule, requiring the senate to approve the organizing resolution on the framework of the trial on Tuesday.

The Senate was expected to honor Schoen’s earlier request not to hold the Senate trial on Saturday. Usually the Senate meets every day for its impeachment proceedings, except on Sundays.

Both the House impeachment managers and Trump’s team have spread 16 hours over two days to present their cases to senators, who sit on the jury. That would mean that House impeachment managers will defend their case on Wednesday and Thursday and Trump’s team on Friday and Sunday.

According to the resolution released earlier Monday, the Senate would interrupt the trial on Friday afternoon and meet again on Sunday afternoon. Senate leadership could still change that so that the trial meets Saturday before the organizing resolution is passed.

“There will be no trial on Friday, February 12, after 5:00 pm, or on Saturday, February 13, 2021. The Senate will meet as a court for impeachment on Sunday, February 14, 2021 at 2:00 pm,” the resolution said.
