Trial between “family” for vote 56 of the Salvadoran Congress

TSE acknowledges that NI has 46 pure deputies, 10 in the coalition, of which 9 were proposed by them and one by GANA, corresponding to the Cabañas department.

MP 56, who represents the qualified majority in the Legislative Assembly, provoked a political dispute between two allied political parties, New Ideas and the Great Alliance for National Unity (GANA).

This, after the magistrate of the president of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (EST), Dora Esmeralda Barahona, representative of the GANA party, wrote on Friday night on her Twitter account that the New Ideas party had 55 deputies and a day later that it had 56 deputies.

The truth is that EST recognizes that NI has 46 pure deputies, 10 in the coalition, of which 9 were proposed by NI and one by the GANA party, which corresponds to the Cabañas department.

GANA grants it because it was proposed by them. However, the reality is that both parties are allies and together form 61 votes for the qualified majority.

What do EST magistrates say?

“In a coalition with GANA they get 55, more GANA than 6, there they get a qualified majority, but NI has only a simple majority and that agrees with the hypotheses that have been raised,” said Judge Julio Olivo. He added that “one thing is how much N alone got, how much GANA got alone, how much N and GANA got in the coalition and so on in each department”.

What do GANA deputies say?

Romeo Auerbach, deputy elected by La Libertad wrote yesterday on his Twitter account “here Walter Araujo shows us very clearly, 46 deputies are from NI and 5 are from GANA; and in the NI + GANA coalition, 9 are affiliated with NI and one is affiliated with GANA, in addition, I see no problem with that, the president said NI + GANA = 61 and I, in turn, will be with the president ”.

Auerbach wrote “here is the name of the 6 GANA deputies” and mentioned Juan Carlos Mendoza, deputy from Santa Ana; Guillermo Gallegos for San Salvador, Adelmo Rivas for Sonsonate, Amílcar Ayala for Cabañas, Romeo Auerbach for Libertad and Numan Salgado for San Miguel.

On March 5, Juan Carlos Mendoza, Santa Ana’s elected deputy, said in a video circulating on the networks: “I am informed that the examination at the Cabañas table has just ended, which leaves us as a WINS party with a deputy, who practically we have maintained ourselves since the party had a deputation and we maintain it ”.

He added that, with a difference of 1,115 votes compared to the third candidate of the New Ideas coalition with GANA, he leaves the candidate Amílcar Ayala from Cabañas as deputy.

Congressman Mendoza also said that the third candidate for New Ideas did not reach the necessary points to be able to get a place.

The legislator stated that the coalition had 46,000 votes and that the fight was to determine the candidate with the most preference marks.

“Obviously when one of GANA enters, one of the New Ideas is left out,” he said.
