Trevor Bauer was ready to join the Mets after the fiasco: “We’re done”

If not for his agent, Trevor Bauer could have been Met.

Rachel Luba did not persuade NL award winner Cy Young to sign with the Dodgers, but told him to reconsider his decision amid frustration over the appearance of the merchandise on his website, prematurely suggesting he would sign with the Mets.

“It’s over, I’m done,” Luba reminded Bauer on Barstool’s “Starting with 9” podcast. “Call the Dodgers, ready. It will be the other team. ”

The other team was the Mets. According to Luba, Bauer felt guilty that the goods were there.

“I can’t do this with a fan base,” he told her. “The decision has been made.”

Before announcing his decision to the team, Luba told him to take a walk and think it over and not decide based on a mistake he had not made.

When they spoke 10 minutes later, Bauer had changed his mind. He was to play for the Dodgers and sign a three-year, $ 102 million contract, avoiding the Mets’ three-year offer of $ 105 million.

Joel Sherman of The Post reported last month that in the last 24 hours of Bauer’s free agency, the Mets believed they had reached an agreement with Bauer.
