Trent Reznor, the Oscar-winning composer and frontman Nine Inch Nails, has denied allegations that he was involved in a sexual assault with Marilyn Manson, made by Manson in his memoirs.
Earlier this week, Manson was accused by his former partner, actor Evan Rachel Wood, of years of “horrible” abuse. She previously accused an anonymous person of sexual assault, physical violence, including torture, and various forms of emotional abuse. Four other women simultaneously published reports of sexual, physical and emotional abuse at Manson.
He denies the allegations, calling them “horrible distortions of reality” and saying “my intimate relationships have always been fully consensual.”
Following the allegations, a passage from Manson’s autobiography from 1998’s The Long Hard Road Out of Hell began circulating online, in which Manson claims that he and Reznor sexually assaulted a severely intoxicated woman. Reznor replied, saying:
Over the years, I have voiced my dislike of Manson as a person, and I broke off ties with him almost 25 years ago. As I said at the time, the passage in Manson’s memoirs is a complete fabrication. I was angry and offended when he came out and I stay that way today.
The book passage comes from an unpublished 1995 interview by Manson with Empyrean magazine. A note from the publisher in the book explains that the interview was never printed in the Empyrean language, as the magazine’s editors “believed that the magazine followed unethical interview procedures to extract information from Mr. Manson.”
Reznor and Manson were once close, Reznor signed him to his Nothing Records label and co-produced his first two albums. He later severed ties, and in 2009 called Manson “a malicious guy.” [who] he will step on anyone’s face to succeed and cross any line of decency. Seeing him now, drugs and alcohol are now leading his life and he has become a stupid clown ”.
Following the allegations of the five women mentioned above this week, other women allegedly abused Manson.
Model Scarlett Kapella supports emotional, physical and sexual abuse; musician Chloe Black supports physical and verbal abuse; artist and director Louise Keay Bell, who previously made allegations against the singer, reiterated her allegations that he “emotionally and financially abused me” and harassed her following the initial allegations. Fashion stylist Love Bailey claims to have held a Glock gun to her head in a 2011 incident, and Torii Lynn retailer also claims that Manson abused her. Manson did not respond to these allegations. The Guardian contacted his management for comment.
Following this week’s allegations, Manson was given up his Loma Vista Recordings label and removed from two American TV series in which he was to appear.
Los Angeles police were called to the singer’s home Wednesday night to check the singer’s well-being and told the Daily Mail that “there is no evidence of any problems.”
His ex-wife Dita Von Teese made a statement following the accusations, saying that she did not suffer abuse from Manson and that their marriage ended due to “infidelity and drug abuse”.
