Trent Reznor issued a new statement about his former friend and collaborator Marilyn Manson. The statement, shared with Pitchfork, comes days after Manson’s former partner, Evan Rachel Wood, claimed that the musician took care of her and abused her during their relationship.
Reznor’s statement addresses an anecdote about Reznor that Manson included in his 1998 autobiography The long hard road to hell. In the story, which had recently reappeared, Manson tells a horrible scene in which he and Reznor allegedly physically and sexually assaulted a drunk woman in the 1990s.

Screenshots of passages from The long hard road to hell began circulating on Twitter after Wood and other women accused Manson of abusing them. The book – co-authored with Neil Strauss – includes stories about Reznor, who signed Manson with Nothing Records and produced his band’s 1994 debut album. The portrait of an American family.
The passage in question was part of an unpublished interview with the deceased Empyrean Magazine, originally intended to appear in the magazine in 1995, but never printed due to “content objections from Empyrean publisher Centaur Enterprises, who believed that the magazine followed unethical interview procedures to extract information from Mr Manson”. according to Manson and Strauss’s book.
When Manson was asked by Empyrean interviewer how he came to work with Reznor, told the story mentioned above. According to the book, this happened the night before Reznor told Manson he wanted to sign it to Nothing Records.
Reznor, who also worked in 1996 Antichrist Superstar, said about Manson to Mojo in 2009: “He is a malicious guy and will step on anyone’s face to succeed and cross any line of decency. Seeing him now, drugs and alcohol are now leading his life and he has become a stupid clown ”.
Manson claimed in 2017 that he and Reznor had reconciled. “He is the one who actually sent me an e-mail, we managed to fix it after a long time [Manson collaborator and producer] Tyler Bates is pretty weird, “Manson told Zane Lowe. “He goes and says in the e-mail something like:” It really annoys me that music is no longer dangerous and reminds me how great you were and how the weather was, the era. ””
Evan Rachel Wood has previously testified before Congress in support of the Bill of Rights for Sexual Assault Survivors about her experiences, although she did not publicly name Manson until last week. Following his accusations, the Manson record label, the travel agency and the television programs severed ties with the musician. Since then, he has denied the allegations in a statement, which partly wrote: “My intimate relations have always been fully consensual with partners with the same idea.”
