Treasury yields mixed before the Fed meeting

The 10-year US Treasury yield rose slightly to more than 1.6% on Tuesday morning, ahead of the first Federal Reserve political meeting later.

The yield on the 10-year treasury note increased to 1.607% at 5 am ET. The yield on the 30-year treasury bond decreased to 2.357%. Yields move in the opposite direction to prices.

Investors will pay close attention to Fed meetings to see if the US central bank adjusts its interest rate outlook or signals how soon it could withdraw from its bond-buying program.

Fed Chairman Jerome Powell will hold a press briefing after the second meeting on Wednesday afternoon.

In the meantime, retail sales data for February will be released at 8:30 AM ET, along with import and export prices for that month. Industrial production data for February are then expected at 9:15 AM ET, followed by business stock data for January at 10:00 ET.

The March NAHB real estate market index will be released at 10 a.m. ET.

On Tuesday, there will be $ 35 billion bond auctions for 42 days and $ 24 billion for 11-year, 19-year bonds.
