Square Enix has registered a lot of new brands that certainly seem to have a lot to do with the world Final Fantasy VII.
Trademarks have been filed in Japan for titlesCrisis ever‘ and ‘The first soldier‘. In addition, a trademark for the Shinra Electric Power FF7 logo was filed. Trademarks were caught by the people at Gematsu.
These three trademarks requested as a result of the success of Final Fantasy VII Remake – the winner of the RPG site’s best general award in 2020 – may not be so surprising. The trademark for the Shinra logo is simpler; that logo is frequently used in branding and merch, after all. But in particular, the headlines raise tempting questions – such as what they might actually be for.
Crisis ever is a project name with obvious connotations. The Final Fantasy VII compilation presents titles in alphabetical order. There is the spin-off film FF7 Advent Children, the mobile game for Turks Before Crisis, the prequel to PSP Crisis Core and the sequel to PS2 Dirge of Cerberus. This is AC, BC, CC and DC – and now, with Ever Crisis, we have a trademark for what appears to be a new Compilation of the Final Fantasy VII title in EC.
Ever Crisis could, of course, be the subtitle for the second part of FF7 Remake. But honestly, we think this is far from a certainty – especially since the title “CE” makes it look and sound more like another entry in the compilation. Now we know that the remake is about compilation and is considered the fifth part of the compilation, however, so it is possible. The choice of the word “Ever” in the name is interesting and for us immediately brings to mind the idea of something always present or eternal; would be an ideal name for a multiplayer or service-based game in the FF7 universe.
There is another, slightly crazy alternative. The later stages of FF7 Remake reveal their true nature as a story that is not just a remake, but rather a sequel to FF7. After the release, director Tetsuya Nomura referred to it as the fifth entry in the Final Fantasy VII Compilation. We know that the game will be released on other platforms next to PlayStation 4 once a one-year exclusive window expires. Could the game be subtitled “Ever Crisis”, a sign to its true nature, now the secret is there?
Given that it is time with these other records obviously linked to the FF7 brand, The first soldier it is not the generic name it seems, referring of course to Shinra’s Elite, a genetically enhanced superhuman military group in the FF7 world. Based on the general meaning of the SOLDIER as described in FF7, the identity of the first SOLDIER is quite obvious: it is Sephiroth. He was the first to be injected with cells from the Jenova Project.
However, in the FF7 tradition, the SOLDIER program is actually mentioned as existing in some form before Sephiroth – for example, Final Fantasy VII Ultimania mentions that SOLDIER forces are used in the Wutai war and other occasions before the project exists. Jenova. However, the same books are also clear that Sephiroth is the first Jenova-enhanced SOLDIER in existence. Could this be a game, anime or other story that tells the origins of Sephiroth? Of course, only time will tell – and before that, we have a PC version of FF7 Remake, still unannounced, but inevitable, to be expected first – hopefully in a few months.
In the meantime, however, fans can now feverishly speculate what these trade names might mean.

If we make a prediction, though, it would probably be a new unique FF7 compilation title, possibly multiplayer, that will someday be released around FF7 Remake 2 and some sort of anime or CG movie that tells the story of Sephiroth … but these are strictly us who throw ideas. And now you can too!
