When Gina Carano posted a post on social media comparing Republicans living in the current American political climate with Jews during the Holocaust, she never expected a reaction that would lead to her dismissal from the “Mandalorian.”
Or so she says.
Carano, 38, was fired from her lead role as Cara Dune in the popular Disney + series last week after the hashtag #FireGinaCarano evolved around the world. That alone, she said, caught her off guard before she was eventually abandoned by Lucasfilm, which produces the Star Wars franchise.
“I was in a state of shock and confusion when some people said he was anti-Semitic,” Carano said in a written message to former New York Times columnist Bari Weiss. “Then, as I was going to lower it, I noticed that the image was not the same as the one people were referring to. I was honestly confused: should I take it down or let it go up? I still don’t know the answer to this question, because eliminating it makes the mafia attack you more “.
Carano deleted the post, which contained a black-and-white photograph of an apparently beaten woman running away from the attackers on the streets, along with a text message that was not in quotation marks, accompanied by a sad-faced emoji:
The Jews were beaten on the streets, not by Nazi soldiers, but by their neighbors … even children.
Carano also quoted the following words:
“Because history is edited, most people today do not realize that in order to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily gather thousands of Jews, the government made their neighbors hate them simply because they are Jews. . How is it different to hate someone for their political views? ”
In a message to Weiss, Carano explained his intention.
“The image for me was a statement that people need to sit together and stand up, not be so manipulated by the powers that be that I know what is best for you and play with our lives,” Carano said. . “My heart has ever had respect and love for the Jewish community.”
Carano, who became known for spreading unfounded conspiracy theories last year, peeled off the curtain, revealing that “Mandalorian” directors wanted her to “use her exact wording to apologize for the use of pronouns,” after briefly updating her biography. on Twitter to read “beep / bop / boop” as a way to make fun of people’s personal preferences. Finally, Carano said she found out she was fired from the show like everyone else – on social media.
Since then, he has signed up for a role as a producer and starring in a new film project supported by the conservative website The Daily Wire.
Carano, a pioneer of female MMA before starting her acting career, last fought in August 2009 when she lost to Cris Cyborg for the inaugural Strikeforce title for women in featherweight, in what was the first event major MMA, driven by a female attack. The loss of TKO remains Carano’s only professional defeat.
