Tom Hanks said he and his wife Rita Wilson would wait a long time to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Several celebrities and political figures have already had the injection, but in an interview with Monday’s episode of NBC’s “Today,” Hanks explained that those most vulnerable to the virus have priority over him and Wilson.
“We will get a long time after all those who really need to get it,” he said.
Hanks and Wilson tested positive for coronavirus in March. The “Forrest Gump” star had traveled to the Gold Coast to begin filming for a biographical film about Elvis Presley, but he and Wilson soon fell ill. Speaking about the experience, Hanks said it was “a few hard days”, but his biggest concern was not transmitting the virus to anyone else.
“I think it was much more important, because the second half of the COVID-19 formula was that I didn’t give it to anyone,” he said. “By closing, we would wear masks and still do it, not just to not catch it, but not to give it to anyone.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Hanks said he would be willing to openly advertise the vaccine and urge people to receive it. The actor is not alone. On Monday, President-elect Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden received their first dose of vaccine, Business Insider reported.
“I am doing this to demonstrate that people should be prepared, when available, to get the vaccine,” said the incoming president. “There’s nothing to worry about.”
Last week, Ian McKellen also spoke openly about receiving the first dose of vaccine.
“I feel very lucky to have had the vaccine. I would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone,” he said. posted on Twitter.
