Tiger Woods transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles

Tiger Woods was transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles following an accident on Tuesday, which left him with serious injuries to his legs, according to a statement released Thursday.

Dr. Anish Mahajan said the 45-year-old Woods had been moved from Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, which is located about 18 miles south of downtown Los Angeles, “for continued orthopedic care and recovery.”

Woods was transferred Wednesday night, two sources told Ramona Shelburne of ESPN. Cedars-Sinai is about 21 miles north of UCLA Harbor.

Tuesday, Said Mahajan Woods he suffered multiple “open fractures” in his lower right leg and had a rod placed in his tibia and screws and pins inserted in his leg and ankle during emergency surgery.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said Wednesday that his department will not file charges against Woods for the crash near the Rolling Hills Estates and Rancho Palos Verdes border, about 30 miles south of downtown Los Angeles.

Villanueva said the department considers it an accident, which could lead to a crime at most.

“He was not drunk,” Villanueva said. “We can throw that one out.”

His Woods golf colleagues continued to react to Thursday’s crash, including Phil Mickelson, who said players “understand and appreciate what it meant to the game of golf and to us and the PGA Tour.”

“We all hope and pray for a full and speedy recovery, but we are also grateful because he looked awful and we are grateful that he is still with us,” said Mickelson of the Cologuard Classic, a Champions Tour event in Tucson, Arizona.
