Tiger Woods is transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles

Tiger Woods was transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after the car accident he suffered on Tuesday, which caused serious injuries to his leg, according to a statement issued on Thursday evening.

Dr. Anish Mahajan said the 45-year-old Woods was removed from Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, located about 18 miles south of downtown Los Angeles, “to continue orthopedic care and recovery.”

Woods was transferred Wednesday night, two sources told Ramona Shelburne. Cedars-Sinai is about 21 miles north of Harbos-UCLA.

On Tuesday, Mahajan said Woods suffered multiple “open fractures” in his lower right leg and that a ring was placed in his tibia and screws and pins were inserted into his leg and ankle during emergency surgery.

Two sources told ESPN that Woods suffered a bone injury that connects the lower leg to the tip of the foot and functions as a pivot for movement. Sources mentioned that the screws were placed in that area to help her heal and that, if all goes well, they will allow normal movement.

Harbor-UCLA Medical Center is a Level 1 trauma center, which means it is qualified to perform detailed surgery and care for traumatic injuries. Cedars-Sinai has the renowned Institute of Sports Medicine that has cared for professional athletes and has a rehabilitation program for orthopedic and sports-related injuries.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said Wednesday that the department will not file charges against Woods for the crash near the Rolling Hills Estates and Rancho Palos Verdes border, about 30 miles south of downtown Los Angeles.

Villanueva said the department considered it an accident, which could lead to a misdemeanor in this case.

“(The tiger) was not drunk. We can rule this out, “Villanueva said.
