Tiger Woods has moved to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for continuing care

LOS ANGELES – Tiger Woods was transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center from Harbor-UCLA Medical Center officials announced late Thursday.

Woods was at Harbor-UCLA Medical, a Level 1 trauma center, following an accident Tuesday that required extensive surgery on his right leg.

“[Woods] he was transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for continued orthopedic care and recovery, ”said Dr. Anish Mahajan, interim CEO / OCP of Harbor-UCLA. “On behalf of our staff, it has been an honor to provide orthopedic care to one of the greatest athletes of our generation.”

Dr. John Torres, NBC News’ medical correspondent, joined “Golf Today” to provide insight into Tiger’s surgery and a possible recovery.

Woods underwent surgery for “significant” injuries to his right leg, including fractures in the upper and lower tibia and fibula. The operations included inserting a rod into the tibia, as well as pins and screws into the ankle.

According to various experts, Woods will probably need at least a week to recover before he can travel home to South Florida.
