Maybe Tiffany Haddish won a Grammy Award, but we’re all crying.
The comedian shared an emotional video on Twitter late Sunday, just hours after she was awarded the Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album for her work on “Black Mitzvah.”
In the video, Haddish films “Kids Say the Darndest Things with Tiffany Haddish” and hears from a producer that she won the Grammy for which she was nominated. He stops talking to the children and asks with tears: “Are you serious? Did I really win? ”
“You know a black woman hasn’t won that category since 1986,” Haddish tells the children, noting that Whoopi Goldberg was the last black woman to win the “Whoopi Goldberg: Original Broadway Show Recording.”
A child says she made to know that, because he learned it during the month of black history.
Haddish continues to use his victory and reaction as a teaching moment: “Can I tell you why I’m crying? It’s a lot of rough roads you cross, isn’t it? And you often feel, “Am I doing the right thing? Is it good enough? Am I good enough? Am I strong enough to do this? ‘”
“And then you just have to believe in yourself as much as you can,” she continues. “Against any odds, just say, ‘You know what?’ I will put my best foot forward and give the world everything I have received. Right? Everything is possible.”
