Three former presidents will attend Biden’s inauguration

Former Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama are expected to receive the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden Wednesday, although his immediate predecessor is expected to leave the White House ahead of the day’s ceremonies. Along with President Trump, former President Jimmy Carter, who is the oldest living president at 96, will not attend the inauguration.

Despite Mr. Trump’s absence, Vice President Mike Pence is expected to attend the inauguration ceremony. Pence will not appear before the president at Mr. Trump’s farewell event at Andrews joint base leaves for Florida Wednesday morning, a senior official told CBS News.

Mr Biden will be sworn in by Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will be sworn in by Judge Sonia Sotomayor. Several members of Congress are expected to attend the event, although they only received one guest ticket. In previous years, each member of Congress has been given 200,000 tickets to distribute to voters. But due to the coronavirus pandemic, attendance at Mr Biden’s inauguration is expected to be very limited.

There are also expected several famous guests attending the inauguration, including Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Bruce Springsteen and Garth Brooks.

While attendance will be sparse, there will be strict security at the inauguration, which will take place just two weeks after an unprecedented attack on the Capitol. The Pentagon has authorized more than 25,000 National Guard troops to secure the event, and the FBI is investigating all Guard members.
