This is where the dead cells are in 2021

Print Screen: Motion Twin

It’s safe to say that Dead cells he is more alive than ever. Launched for the first time in 2018 for PC and consoles, the excellent roguelike with side scrolling throws you like a resuscitated soldier. You maneuver randomly selected weapons, which you use to kill randomly occurring enemies, as you scroll through randomly generated biomes. It’s chaotically enchanting.

The Motion Twin developer continued to bring the game to life by launching a constant stream of additional content and diversifying the platforms on which you can play. The latest expansion is launched today, Fatal Falls, a downloadable content of 5 USD, which adds new areas, new weapons and a new boss to the game. Pretty good reason to play, if you ask me.

Sounds fun. Where can I play?

Dead cells was originally available on Switch, PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. These days, there are mobile versions for both Android and iPhone players. It is also part of the Game Pass library and is streamed on PS Now (well, for next week). That Fortnite and Minecraft, Dead cells it’s pretty much everywhere. Personally, I prefer the Switch.

What about these expansions?

Over the years, Motion Twin and It is Dead cells-concentrated label, Evil Empire, have released three major expansions for the game. Are:

Rise of the Giant: It’s free and adds a stage called Cavern to the game, plus lets you take on a new boss named Giant.

Bad seed: Last year’s enlargement, Bad seed DIC, added two new biomes, Dilapidated Arboretum and Morass of the Banished. These serve as alternative routes for the second stages (Prisoners’ Promenade, Toxic Sewers) and the third (Ramparts, Ancient Canals, Ossuary), culminating in a boss fight against a gigantic, 90-eyed monstrosity called Mama Tick, an alternate boss in the middle of the game for the Concierge. However, it is a great way to shake the first segments of the race. Five dollars.

Fatal Falls: Today Fatal Falls the expansion also adds two biomes. The first, Fractured Altarpieces, is meant to serve as an alternative to the Stilt Village and Slumbering areas. The second, Undying Shore, diverts players from the Clock Tower and the absolutely dreaded areas of the Forgotten Tomb. It culminates in a boss fight on a stage called the Mausoleum. (Everyone who hates that frustrating fight against the Time Keeper, rejoice!) And he has five bucks.

However, as a result of the expansions, there are more than two dozen biomes. With both extensions downloaded, your races through the procedurally generated biomes in the game will be much more varied than they would be with the base version.

What happens to the story?

Dead cells“The story is not stupid. It’s just extremely low. You play as a disembodied entity known as the Beheaded. Your goal is to escape from prison, which you do by overcoming a headless body at the beginning of each run. The whole world is affected by a vague disease called Malaise, which seems to have resuscitated a bunch of corpses in monsters of different sizes and forces. When you die, you will pick up another headless body in the starting area.

Rise of the Giant he added a fun wrinkle to the overall plot, revealing that the Collector – he’s the type to whom you give all the cells you gain in exchange for new equipment and powers – turned out to be a big evil game. Apparently, the Collector tried to work on a remedy for Malaise, Panacea, but went crazy in the process. You can only reach it with five activated Boss stem cells, a daunting and awful task that I didn’t even consider tackling.

Chief stem cells

These little blood cells (?) Are Dead Cells’ addressing difficulty levels. You can activate them in the starting room – each significantly increases the challenge more than the last – and you must overcome each level of difficulty before you can unlock the next one.

At the end of the day, you play Dead cells for slick combat, tight platform, irresistible sensation of incremental progression, eye-catching pixel art or that delicious crisp sound design. For better or worse, the story is on the sidelines.

So … should I play?

Yes! Come on! Come on! Come on! Dead cells still scary rules. You heard it here first.
