This is what the wearing of the mask looked like during the 1918 flu pandemic

Mask orders were part of the latest pandemic – the Spanish flu outbreak of 1918.

The first cases of Spanish flu appeared in March 1918 in Kansas.

The New York Times analyzed the chronology of the first mask orders issued in October 1918.

San Francisco had its first mask order. It lasted four weeks until November 21, 1918.

San Francisco implemented a second mask order in December 1918, after the dead began to climb again.

The second order lasted about two months until the beginning of February 1919.

It is also important to note that the masks of 1918 do not resemble the masks we have now.

Most people were forced to wear gauze attached with tape. The newspapers printed instructions on how to make your own masks at home.
