Henry James, the strange romance and ghosts. These are the DNA The Bly Manor Hauntingand I’m the subject of this great (if long) video essay.

Ladyknightthebrave makes fascinating and detailed video essays that delve into how the media works. Her latest is an essay on the Netflix show A Haunting of Bly Manor, exploring how death and memory work in the show, exploring influences and thinking through its themes. Also interesting is a new interview with show creator Mike Flanagan, which provides a compelling insight into the show’s production and its thematic commitments.

This essay, in particular, does an excellent job of weaving into production Details and background in a more detailed reading of the series. Following Hill House Haunting, is a fascinating series, and Ladyknight actually breaks it down. It also has a lot of good information about Henry James, which is good for those of us who didn’t think about the horror of the 19th century before the show started.

I enjoy a close look at how she tells a story he says to himself, and this is a very good one. It’s a good thing to throw away for a lazy weekend. You will learn something.
