Third-party AirPods Max solutions seek to address smart case reviews

The first third-party cases and hangers for magnets containing AirPods Max, which allow users to avoid using the Apple Smart Case, are now available for purchase.

The Apple Smart Case contains magnets that put ‌AirPods Max‌ in a low power consumption mode to preserve battery life. After 18 hours in the Smart Case, irAirPods Max‌ enters an ultra-low power mode, which disables Bluetooth and Find My.

IrAirPods Max‌ does not have a power button, Apple instead relies on different power modes and Smart Case to preserve battery life. However, the Smart Case has caught fire for its design, which some customers have criticized because it offers very little protection and is impractical and, without using it, irAirPods Max‌ takes longer to enter its state of reduced consumption.

Against the background of these criticisms, third companies have started to present solutions to address Smart Case criticisms. WaterField Designs’ “protective case” for ‌AirPods Max‌, unlike the Apple Smart Case, which only partially covers each ‌AirPods Max‌ ear cup, ties the entire headset in an ultra-plush interior and offers three layers of protection. There is also an inside pocket to carry a loading brick, waterproof zippers and a loop for attaching the case to a carabinieri.

The WaterField Shield case contains a “Magnetic Leather Butterfly” that puts “AirPods Max” in their low power mode without the Apple Smart Case, but it’s also possible to fold these magnets to put “AirPods Max” with the Smart Case in the Shield Case.

On Etsy, a 3D-printed “Air Hanger” “AirPods Max” similarly uses magnets to put headphones into low-power mode without a Smart Case. The wall-mounted hanger allows ‌AirPods Max‌ to be hung at any length of the strip, with a curved lip to prevent the headphones from slipping.
