The former football player Luis Cruz, who was the World Cup with the Honduras national team, was buried on Thursday in Pimienta, Cortés, after he died on Wednesday due to the coronavirus.

Around 10.30 in the morning, they said goodbye to the former Motagua defender, as well as Real España, Atlético Morazán and Universidad.

He was considered one of the best defenders in the history of Honduran football and was accompanied at his funeral by his wife Juanita Yanes de Cruz and his three children Jenny, José Luis and Ingrid Carolina.

Surrounded by the affection of the people from Pimenta who supported the relatives, keeping all the biosecurity measures.

Luis Cruz lost the battle against COVID-19 after becoming infected when he came on holiday to Honduras in the United States, where he lived in New Orleans. He was hospitalized at Leonardo Martínez Hospital for almost a month and died there at the age of 68.

Cruz participated with Honduras in the 1982 World Cup in Spain. In that championship he played the match against Northern Ireland which ended in a 1-1 draw.

In the National League he played over 340 games and won two titles, one with Motagua and the other with Real España.
