Senate President José Luis Dalmau Santiago pleaded in a radio interview on Tuesday for a 14-day “blockade” or closure of most activities in the country to contain the wave of COVID-19 infections.

“If we do not close the country for 14 days, these cases of COVID-19 will continue to grow,” Dalmau Santiago said in a radio interview with Normando Valentin en la Mañana on Notiuno 630.

“Some time ago, we were late to do it (closing). The medical working group announced three weeks ago that the increases will continue. How can we stop it if we don’t close? “, Asked the president of the Senate.

“I know we have to participate in an important sector of the economy, but what good is it if we have full hospitals and people continue to get infected and die,” said Dalmau Santiago.

“We have to assess this calmly, but I am sure we will have to close. Cases continue to grow. They have grown more today than yesterday (in the reports of the Department of Health), and tomorrow they will grow more than today, unfortunately “, concluded Dalmau Santiago.
