They notice another bright meteor in the Puerto Rican sky

A spectacular fireball (bright meteor) was visible at 23:21 on Sunday 24, the Society for Astronomy of the Caribbean (SAC) reported.

He pointed out that it was visible from all over the Island, looking to the southwest. “It was really bright, because the images show that it briefly illuminated other areas of the sky,” the organization said.

He added that reports indicate that in the brief moments when it was visible, the meteor showed beautiful colors that seemed to alternate between turquoise blue-green, then yellow-orange and turquoise again, as seen in the images captured by the entity. educational. .

“After analyzing the meteor’s trajectory, it was confirmed that it came from the Cancer constellation, so it was another ‘Delta Cancrid’, just like other bright meteors observed in the last nights on the island,” said SAC.

The fragments caused by Delta Cancrids have an orbit similar to that of the asteroid 2001 YB5, so it is possible that they are debris released by this space rock. The organization had anticipated that there would be a chance to see another bright meteor until January 24, as it happened. However, the remarkable activity of bright meteors suggests that additional meteors will be seen for at least a few weeks, it was noted.

SAC urged us to occasionally appreciate the sky, because at any time you can see a sporadic meteor.
