A man who defended two women while they were assaulted around 8:50 on Wednesday evening in the Banco Popular car park located on Luis Muñoz Rivera Boulevard in Río Piedras was killed by a fire in his chest, the Police confirmed.
According to the investigation into the incident, while a woman was at the bank’s ATM with a friend who was depositing money, an individual approached her carrying a firearm and reported the assault.
Immediately afterwards, their companion, who was waiting with a child under 8 years old inside a Nissan Máxima vehicle, noticed the situation and came out in defense of the women, being shot.
The victim was identified as Rubén Cabrera Aparicio, 54, of San Juan.
Cabrera Aparicio was transported to a hospital in San Francisco and from there he was sent to the Río Piedras Medical Center, where his death was certified.
Related to these events, a bullet hit the right rear window of the 2014 white Ford Fiesta, which was passing through the seat in the direction of Cupey.
A .40 caliber cap was confiscated on the spot.
Agent Cordero, assigned to the Homicide Division of the San Juan Criminal Investigation Corps, along with prosecutor Omar Domínguez, investigated the events.
