The commander of the army in the Dominican Republic, Major General Julio Florián Pérez, said yesterday that the demarcations of Dajabón, Pedernales and Elías Piña are the “most critical” points of the Dominican-Haitian border. Because these provinces are the place where the largest number of illegal aliens enter the country.
“More than 1,600 soldiers were added, totaling over 8,000 soldiers who will be at the border alone. The Dajabón, Pedernales and Elías Piña points are the most critical points, because that is where most illegal immigrants enter the country and we have to deal with our border. Migrants return regularly to their country on this date and we are in operation so that they are regularized when they try to return, ”said Florián Pérez, who added that the institution works with illegal trafficking and goods.
The information was provided by the army commander during the launch of the “Operation to Strengthen Migration Controls”, which consists of carrying out a series of actions throughout the country to control the presence of illegal aliens. The plan started yesterday and will run for three months. “We will maintain this operation for three months and over. By air, land and sea we will use all management structures in order to protect our border in particular and that national sovereignty is not violated, so as to avoid the mass exodus of illegal immigrants, human trafficking, drug blind weapons and protect us the country of any illegal act “, explained Enrique García, the general director of migration.
While Interior and Police Minister Jesús Vásquez Martínez reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening security at the Dominican-Haitian border and warned that the government will not allow immigrants to enter the country illegally.
“The law will be imposed on our border, the environment, our natural resources will be respected. These measures aim to reduce the illegal trade with a special focus and emphasis on smuggling of firearms, alcohol, controlled substances and other illegal behaviors, which affect our legal security, “said Vásquez Martínez. A total of 95 members of the Ministry of Defense and the National Police will participate in these operations, who will “comb the whole country” in search of detecting undocumented aliens. They will be delivered 40 motorcycles, 28 trucks, 6 carts, 6 buses and two drones.
An inspector from the General Directorate of Migration will be present at each of the operations, who will examine the documents of the requisitioned persons.
