They consider allegations of sedition for invading Congress

Washington – After the eruption at the federal Capitol, “all options are on the table” to prosecute members of the violent mob of the president’s supporters Donald Trump, including allegations of sedition, Michael Sherwin, the District of Columbia’s acting US attorney, said Thursday.

Sherwin said prosecutors plan to file 15 federal cases Thursday for crimes such as unauthorized access and property theft. He noted that investigators are sifting through mountains of evidence to file additional charges.

“All those charges are on the table … We will file as many charges as possible,” he said.

More than 90 people have been arrested by Washington Police and there are likely to be more arrests. US prosecutors across the country have vowed to find residents who participated in the uprising started to hinder the peaceful transfer of power and bring them to justice.

Experts said some could be charged with inflammatory conspiracy, which is rarely used. It is the same allegation that the Justice Department, then led by former Secretary William Barr, proposed to come forward against those promoting violence during the protests that took place last summer over the deaths of African Americans at the hands of the police.

Then Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen, who assumed command of the Justice Department when Barr stepped down last month, told prosecutors in a September memo that they should consider using the charge of incendiary conspiracy against violent protesters, saying he noted that “It does not require evidence of a plot to overthrow the US government, despite what the name might suggest.”
