Several members of Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) were arrested on Friday morning in a mountainous area on the road leading to the department of Olancho.
As reported by National Police, This is a the assassin’s camp led by Mara Salvatrucha, who was used as a center for teaching, practice and knowledge in the use of firearms.
The operational deployment was carried out very early on Friday in the sector known as La Sieneguita, with the support of the intelligence services of the police and the National Directorate of Special Forces (DNFE).
The Secretary of Security reported that the camp, called by the criminal group as a “small school”, was set up in a mountainous area on a river hill, was used for teaching, practice and training in the use of weapons. In addition, criminal proceedings were planned there and a drug laboratory was set up.
Police officials were able to call in six suspected leaders of the criminal structure in the sector, verifying that they have a police record and that one of them has three arrest warrants pending for the crimes of homicide, murder and illicit association.
Among the seized are the following:
– 74 packages containing suspected marijuana
– Four rifles
– An AK-47 rifle
– A 40 mm pistol weapon
– Five pressure rings
– 32 bulletproof vests
– Three fatigues and a pair of boots for military use
– Seven metal rifle depots
– Two pistol depots
– Four boxes of ammunition
– Two communications radios
– A machete
– Four axes
– 10 painting weapons
– Two cell phones
The Police Investigation Directorate transferred the detainees together with the evidence to the central office for the compliance of the investigation file and sent them to the service prosecutor.
Gerson Velasquez, the head of the Operational Planning and Continuous Improvement Directorate, said that “this was achieved thanks to the investigations carried out by DPI and Dipol, as well as the precise execution of the National Directorate of Special Forces. With this we demonstrate the population that the Police work to combat the impact that these structures leave on society, such as deaths and other violent events recorded daily.
The police officer warned those still operating in these groups that at any time they will be captured and held accountable for their actions in court.
