They capture a man for voting if he does not belong

“Despite being warned, he cast his vote in a place where he did not belong,” confirmed prosecutor Raúl Melara.

The Attorney General of the Republic, Raúl Melara, confirmed the capture of a citizen from the east of the country because he voted in a center where he does not correspond.

Police identified him as Josué Gómez Turcios and published the image of the capture that took place in La Unión. The detainee, he said, is a vigilante of the ARENA party. “The person voted knowing that she was excluded from the register because she had been previously convicted of another crime,” police said.

Melara said that despite being warned that he did not have the right to vote at the polling station, which he did not identify, the citizen ignored him, so he was captured and will be charged with the crime of electoral fraud in court. .

“Despite being warned, he cast his vote in a place where he did not belong,” Melara confirmed.

The Criminal Code establishes as electoral fraud: “Who, in order to vote in a district other than the one that legally corresponds to him, changes his address or changes his place of residence in DUI”

The penalty for these crimes will be four to six years, but if the subjects involved in the previous conduct were civil servants or election officials, they will be punished with a sentence of seven to ten years in prison and will be disqualified from office. .

On the other hand, Melara recalled that she keeps thousands of electoral prosecutors (1,982) in all polling stations to guarantee the observance of the Salvadorans’ vote.

So far, the prosecutor general said, in addition to the one caught for electoral fraud, prosecutors’ reports are linked to the difficulty of setting up polling stations, which has led to the late opening of polling stations.
