They are evaluating 16 possible cases of the new strain of COVID in Puerto Rico

The president of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Puerto Rico, Víctor Ramos, indicated that more than ten cases are currently being evaluated on the island to confirm whether they are infected with the new British strain of COVID-19 coronavirus.

In an interview with Radio Isla, Ramos explained that there were about 16 samples because these people had contact with positive cases of COVID in the state of Florida.

“Certainly there is a lot of travel history here in places where the strain is already positive, especially Florida, and there were basically people who had a history of travel and had contact with people who were already certified as having the variant in those states. and the samples were sent to be sequenced and confirmed to be the variant and will probably come out positive, “the medical worker said in an interview with Radio Isla.” There are people who have had contact with people who have already tested positive for the variant in the states “, he added.

Like the designated secretary of the Department of Health, Carlos Mellado, Ramos is convinced that the new strain has already reached the island. “I think it’s here too, it’s a matter of verification,” he said in the radio interview.

On January 18, in an interview with the same post, Mellado indicated that “thinking differently would be illusory.”

As of yesterday, according to the Telemundo website, 92 cases had been reported in Florida, the largest state in the United States.
