They are asking for help to get the drugs that Cuban actor Jorge Losada needs

The Cuban actor Jorge Losada he needs medication to counteract a “major anemia” that has been detected in him, art director Luis Lacosta Alverich warned.

“He came out of the operation very well, he is having problems, he has been diagnosed with severe anemia despite eating daily, his body seems to have a problem and they have ordered him to take Inferon and Trofin or another medicine because he can get out of anemia, “Lacosta Alverich wrote on his Facebook wall.

Immediately several people reacted to the publication, showing their solidarity with the actor and proposing ideas so that the drugs could arrive promptly.

“In the waiting room of the airport there are shelves full of Trofin, a liquid with iron supplement of high blood compatibility, of national production. There is Trofin, but intended for those who have dollars,” wrote Manuel Iglesias Pérez.

Others volunteered to give him the medicine, such as Suyen Tartabull Valdés, a Guanabacoa resident who keeps a bottle of Trofin at home.

There has been a shortage of medicines in Cuba in recent years, which the authorities justify by difficult access to raw materials on the international market, economic sanctions imposed by the United States government and restrictions imposed by the coronavirus pandemic.

In view of this, the official press promotes the use of natural and traditional medicine as an alternative in the absence of drugs.

Oral antibiotics, analgesics, anti-inflammatory drugs, antihistamines and anxiolytics are currently the rarest in the whole country.

In the face of the national deficit, Cubans have to pay more for drugs sold on the informal market or buy them in dollars in international pharmacies, at prices inaccessible to many citizens.

Jorge Losada (1933) graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Texas, USA and graduated from the Academy of Dramatic Art in Havana. His acting career, which began in the 1950s as a radio broadcaster, also includes theater, film and television.

In the 1980s, he did important work as a comedian at the Havana Musical Theater. He was part of the set of actors of the humorous program Hitting the box, for four years. His film career began in 1964 with Cuban-Soviet film I’m Cuba, considered one of the most important film productions on the island.
