The start of the free agency window does not last another two weeks – the period of “legal manipulation” comes Monday, March 15, two days before the opening of the former free agency and the calendar year of the league, on 17. But apparently this did not prevent the little team to address and talk to free agent quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, who was thinking about his future in the league after a two-year stint in Miami that saw him offer a lot of magic for the Dolphins along the way.
There was also some heartache, but in general, the Fitzpatrick mandate in Miami should be considered a thrilling success, as it helped rekindle the success of the Dolphins and move from a stopped franchise to a hopeful one.
Maybe his next move is easy enough to predict, as he will have a chance to offer more of the same to someone else. And an upcoming team, the Denver Broncos, need just that. Woody Paige of the Denver Gazette reported that the Broncos team “talked” with the veteran defender.
How this may have been done without violating the league’s policies on the “legal manipulation” window to extracurricular activity is unclear – but Denver would certainly be a great destination for Fitzpatrick’s experienced hand to make an impact. Broncos has a lot of talent, but the young defender Drew Lock seems to be a potential obstacle in the long-term perspective of the team. And while Fitzpatrick would not solve the team’s long-term problem, he would provide a potential boost in the game for a Broncos team that needs a “spark”.
Fitzpatrick has proven countless times that his specialty is “sparks.” So when the league year opens in March, look for Fitzpatrick to be moving to a place that needs a little extra juice. Denver could be the ticket – and thanks to Paige’s subtle clue, this may be exactly where we see him landing.
