The company has two models of clinics, some of which have an agreement with VetPlus to provide services to their clients in the form of an IPS, where the person participates, presents the card, the clinic requests authorization and, if approved, treats the pet and Vetplus pays the medical center and the patient pays the bonus.
The other model is the clinic that does not have an agreement, but the client can access it as long as it is authorized, but in this case a refund is made. “This means that clients have enough veterinary clinics at their disposal across the country,” Uribe said.
Plans for dogs start at $ 63,000 to $ 160,000 per month, depending on breed, size and age, for example, a puppy will not get very sick and its cost is lower. In the case of cats, it is between $ 50,000 and $ 90,000.
These plans cover everything from vaccinating the puppy to cremating the pet, through operations, hospitalizations, laboratory tests, ultrasound, among others.
However, companies such as Pets Colombia also offer prepaid drugs with plans that fit different budgets. For example, they have one that costs $ 444,000 a year and can be paid in monthly installments of $ 37,000, but they also have one in which the monthly payment is $ 31,990.
However, when you look at coverage, it is more like a health care plan because you have telephone consultations on issues such as medical guidance for legal issues for third party damages; but also covers medical expenses due to accidents or illness, sterilization assistance and assistance for the loss of the pet, among other things.
Something similar happens with EPS Pets which, more than the prepaid medicine, offers preventive medicines which, as the company points out, “will be cheaper than corrective medicines, so you will get a double advantage by receiving the services of the contracted plan, avoid you get very corrective expensive procedures ”.
EPS Pets has plans that cost more than $ 3.3 million a year for dogs over the age of seven and include vaccines, deworming, consultations, among others.
For its part, Seguros Mundial has a basic insurance plan that costs $ 20,000 a month and covers medical expenses for accidents, euthanasia services due to illness and funeral assistance.
All health care plans (see chart) have different prices, trying to fit all budgets. In addition, the cost varies depending on whether it is for a dog or a cat and depending on age, breed, among other factors.
