Hillsborough, NC – A New Year’s Eve accident on Interstate 85 in northern Orange County killed a 30-year-old five-year-old mother, authorities said.
Shadeshia Brooks of Graham was driving on Durham on I-85 when she lost control of the Ford pickup near Interstate 40 near Hillsborough shortly after 1:30 p.m., authorities said.
The pickup truck ran off the right side of the highway, hit a bumper and overturned. Brooks, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the truck and killed, authorities said.
Speed was not a factor in the accident, authorities said, but is still trying to determine whether road conditions played a role.
I-85 north was closed for several hours while authorities investigated the crash, but the highway reopened until 4 p.m.
