On Wednesday afternoon, April 14, Xiomara was alone with her two children, aged 11 and 2 and a half, when her ex-partner arrived.
Carlos sent the children shopping at the store, through the narrow, dusty street that runs along the railway line in the community of Los Santos, in Cojutepeque, Cuscatlán.
Carlos then took advantage of the children’s absence to assassinate Xiomara with a revolver and then fired. The bodies were left next to each other inside the earthen house.

Xiomara and Carlos had been together for 4 years and had a 2 and a half year old daughter in common.

“They tried to take things back because they had a daughter in common, for her sake they got a little closer to God’s things, but it didn’t work,” says one of the relatives.
Although relatives say they have no evidence that she suffered physical violence, acquaintances told her she was beaten by her partner.

One of the neighbors commented that the young woman suffered violence, but the women do not dare to report it because “justice is not sure who protects and who does not, I detain them for a while and this later becomes expensive,” she said.
Xiomara’s sister describes her as a very friendly person and a good mother. The young woman worked for eight years in domestic work.

Neighbors describe Carlos as a quiet young man who had no problems. “He came to the church group on Saturday, I don’t understand what happened to him,” said one of the neighbors.
On Thursday afternoon, both families mourned their loved ones separately. Xiomara’s remains were covered in the center of Cojutepeque, while Carlos was covered in the La Esperanza Community Hermitage. The two will be buried in separate graves in the municipal cemetery of Cojutepeque.
