The winner of the beauty contest in Sri Lanka suffers head injuries in the body

It wasn’t exactly the coronation he was looking for.

A beauty queen contestant won the title of Mrs. Sri Lanka over the weekend – only to arrive at the hospital with head injuries after Ms. World snatched her crown from a snit to give her second place.

The ugly melee erupted moments after winning contestant Pushpika De Silva received the title at a Colombo theater on Sunday night, according to Time 24 News.

Ms. World Caroline Jurie, who is from Sri Lanka and was at the event, suddenly jumped on stage and took the microphone, claiming that De Silva was in fact divorced and thus disqualified from holding the title.

“There is a rule that prevents women who have already been married and divorced, so they are taking steps to make the crown second,” Jurie told the stunned crowd.

Jurie then snatched the gold crown from De Silva’s head and put it in second place, causing tears and chaos, media reported.

De Silva had to be hospitalized for head injuries to the crown, in addition to trauma, Time24 said, citing a local newspaper.

The contestant later posted a photo of her on a hospital bed on her Facebook page – while denying she was divorced.

“The pain of my skull when the crown was torn from my head by the beauty queen of the world got married, the pain I felt when I lost the crown …”, wrote De Silva.

“I say that a true queen is not a woman who snatches another woman’s crown, but a woman who [helps straighten] another woman’s crown !!

“I know you are expecting my response to the unexpected incident that happened. Even if I have a lot to say, I will only post the essentials here “, said De Silva.

She acknowledged that she and her husband live separately, but insisted: “I am not a divorced woman.”

Since then, she has been officially re-declared the winner, according to Newsfirst.
