A 9to5Mac the reader sent a pair of irAirPods Max for repairs due to a problem with the Digital Crown, and the replacement set he received back did not include ear pads.
Apple, on the other hand, expects users to keep the ear pads from the damaged set of irAirPods Max for use with the replacement pair, unless the ear pads themselves have been damaged. Due to the modular design of irAirPods Max, it is possible that Apple only delivers headphones or ear pads for replacement purposes.
Apple’s instructions for mailing in “AirPods Max” include a diagram that instructs users to remove the ear pads before shipping “AirPods Max” in a repair box.

With the replacement AirPods Pro models, Apple offers new ear tips, but the ear tips for sAirPods Pro are priced at $ 8, rather than $ 69, like AirPods Max ear pads, so it’s no surprise that they come with separated.
