A man is praised as a hero after risking his life to save a child who fell on the train tracks at Vangani station in Mumbai, India, as a train approaching the bar in the station, according to the Indian publication Ministry of Railways.
The ministry has released a video showing Shri Mayur Shelke running at full speed on a set of rails to save a child who had fallen off the platform and rails as a train approached.
The video, captured by the security cameras at the station, shows the child initially walking next to an unidentified person when he slips from the edge of the platform and on the tracks below. The video shows the child struggling to return to the platform and the unidentified person grabbing the air, struggling to pull him safely.
As the approaching train approaches rapidly, Shelke can be seen running towards the child and throwing him on the platform just seconds before a train blows past them, walking to save their lives in just a few moments. Reserve.
Shelke works as a point man at Vangani station where the incident took place. Following his heroic efforts, the Ministry of Railways congratulated Shelke in a Press release, praising him for his actions and offering him a monetary reward of 50,000 rupees.
Railway Minister Piyush Goyal announced the award in a press release issued by the Ministry of Railways online. In the announcement, Shelke is congratulated for the “act of courage, bravery and presence of mind” during the service.
The ministry continued to celebrate Shelke for his courageous act, with applause from their staff and personal congratulations from the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), as shown in a video shared on Twitter account.
