The Vatican assures that it cannot bless homosexual unions, because God “cannot bless sin”

Roma – The Vatican decreed on Monday that the Catholic Church cannot bless gay couples because God “cannot bless sin.”

The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, the Vatican’s Orthodox office, officially responded Monday to a question of whether Catholic religious could bless gay unions.

The answer, contained in a two-page explanation published in seven languages and authorized by Pope Francis, was “negative.”

The decree distinguished between acceptance into the Church and the blessings for homosexuals, which it upheld, and the blessings of their unions, which it rejected.

The Vatican argues that homosexuals should be treated with dignity and respect, but that homosexual sex is “intrinsically disordered.” Catholic teachings indicate that marriage between a man and a woman is part of the divine plan and is intended to create a new life.

As gay couples are not part of this plan, they cannot be blessed in the church, the document says.

“The presence in these relationships of the positive elements, which in themselves are appreciated and appreciated, cannot justify these relationships and can turn them into legitimate objects of ecclesiastical blessing, because the positive elements exist in the context of an disordered union of plan in the creator.”, indicated the answer.

God “does not bless and cannot bless sin: He blesses the sinful man so that he can recognize that he is part of his plan of love and allow himself to be transformed by Him,” the text added.

Francisco was in favor of the legal protection of homosexual couples, but in relation to the civil sphere, not within the Church. He made these comments in an interview with Mexican television station Televisa in 2019, although the Vatican interrupted them until they appeared in a documentary last year.
