A UPS driver, who was caught in the film, was doing a racist act while delivering a package to a Latino family in Milwaukee, allegedly fired.
Hugo Aviles, a police officer, was asleep when he received a notification from his security camera showing the UPS driver making racist remarks on his porch on December 17, the Washington Post reported.
“Now you don’t get f – nothing because you’re a stupid m – who can’t read, write and speak f – English,” the driver says in the recording.
Shirley Aviles, 45, the mother of the police officer, said she had no doubt that the UPS driver was referring to her 23-year-old son.
“He never met my son,” the mother told The Washington Post. “It is based exclusively on the Latin surname. He meant. He sent her back. It was malicious. “
On Tuesday, UPS announced that it fired the driver. The company did not release the driver’s identity.
His dismissal came after Milwaukee activists held a news conference urging the company to take action.
“There is no place in any community for racism, bigotry or hatred,” a UPS spokesman told NBC News. “This is very serious and we immediately took action, interrupting the driver’s employment.”
