The United States reiterates its support for the fight against corruption

TEGUCIGALPA.

The American Heather Fulton claimed that the output of the Mission in support of corruption and impunity in Honduras (Maccih) from Honduras represented a setback in the fight against corruption.

“Given my time in Honduras, the lifting of the Maccih represents a step backwards in the fight against corruption in Honduras, ”said Fulton, who, as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Office of Programs for the Western Hemisphere in the Office for International Narcotics Affairs and Law Enforcement (INL), during a press conference.

Fulton, who served as Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy, stated that “anyway, U.S, its allies and independent civil society remain committed to the fight corruption and impunity, in addition to the continuous promotion of transparency, accounting and the Honduras

He stated that the INL had different research units of the Prosecution (MP) and representatives of legal assistance in development and management matters. He admitted that “about Maccihthe INL supports various investigative units of the Public Prosecution Service engaged in the fight against corruption. And I think the most important thing is that this work continues. But the organization changes, the work continues because we have committed partners ”.

On the other hand, he said the INL is investing in significant resources to increase forensic capacity in everyone Hondurasallowing the judicial sector to offer fair trials based on evidence, as a key element in the fight against impunity

Yesterday a group of senators came out U.S presented a bill that would sanction the Honduran president, Juan Orlando Hernandez, and would reduce financial aid and ammunition sales to the security forces until human rights violations cease.

It’s Honduras’ Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Act sponsored by Senators Jeff Merkley, Bernie Sanders, Patrick Leahy, Ed Markey, Elizabeth Warren, Dick Durbin, Sheldon Whitehouse and Chris Van Hollen.
