The United States will begin calling on people flying from the UK to test negative for Covid-19 no later than 72 hours before departure, the CDC said in a statement late Thursday.

The statement said that President Donald Trump will sign the order on Friday, Christmas. It will take effect on Monday.

Earlier this week, Britain said it had identified a new strain of Covid-19 that appeared to be spreading faster. Dozens of countries have rapidly restricted travel from the UK in efforts to prevent the strain from entering their own borders.
