The United States adds 2,098 deaths and 100,747 new infections from the covid-19

California is now the state most affected by the pandemic with 49,046 deaths followed by New York (46,703), Texas (42,032), Florida (29,813), Pennsylvania (23,540), New Jersey (22,834) and Illinois (22,426).

Other states with a high death toll include Ohio (16,749), Georgia (16,742), Michigan (16,342), Massachusetts (15,779) and Arizona (15,480).

In terms of infections, California has 3,525,599, followed by Texas with 2,591,564, Florida is third with 1,863,707, New York is fourth with 1,585,435, and Illinois is fifth with 1,172,736.

The preliminary death toll -497,568- is well above the lower limit of initial White House estimates, which predicted between 100,000 and 240,000 deaths from the pandemic in the best cases.

The new president of the United States, Joe Biden, has predicted that more than half a million will be killed in February and that more than 600,000 will die in total.

For its part, the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluations (IHME) at the University of Washington, whose models for predicting the evolution of the pandemic are often drawn up by the White House, calculates that for about 615,000 will have died on June 1.
