The TSE will present the final report of the 2021 elections this Friday

The TSE published the official results, 4 days after the postponement of the closing of the final control for the claims of new ideas.

The Supreme Electoral Tribunal presented, on Friday, the final report of the results of the 2021 elections in which the representatives were elected in Parlacen, the Legislative Assembly and the municipal councils for the period 2021-2024.

“We can properly state that, thanks to technology, we have managed to provide timely and accurate results, the trend of which has not changed in terms of the election results obtained in the final vote,” said EST President Dora Esmeralda Martínez de Barahona.

In addition, it was reported that the final account sheet and the final declaration decree will be published in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Code.

According to the electoral authority, this was the distribution of the mayoralties made by the parties: ARENA 34 mayoralties; FMLN 30; WIN 27; PCN 14; PDC 3; LET’S GO 1; New ideas 116.

The presiding magistrate, Dora Martínez, indicated at the time that the New Ideas had submitted a request for a review of the allocation of functions in municipal councils and that this request should be resolved.

Martínez referred to Article 219 of the Electoral Code, which lays down the rules for interpreting the manner in which councilors are assigned to the Council and, accordingly, would have made the appropriate revision.

“About some cases that they (New Ideas) raise, we know them, including, we will meet this afternoon to continue and decide what will be the resolution that we will issue,” Magistrate Noel Orellana said on Tuesday.

The NI claim is given by the way in which the number of councilors in each municipal council is distributed in accordance with the provisions of Article 219 of the Electoral Code (EC).

In this regard, election expert Ruth Eleonora López said in an interview with TVX that “such a change would require a reform approved by the Legislative Assembly,” despite the fact that the TSE is the highest electoral authority, not corresponds to the amendment of the law.

On the other hand, Article 272 EC provides that appeals for the annulment of the final number of votes may be submitted to the Court by political parties within three days of notification or publication on the TSE’s website.

The Court will give the final report 19 days after it has carried out the commissions in which it has indicated, a computer system has been developed for the examination of the commissions for receiving votes which has allowed a “transparent” process to take place.
