The Court of First Instance, through Superior Judge Anthony Cuevas Ramos, this afternoon rejected the lawsuit filed by former San Juan mayoral candidate Manuel Natal, in which he tried to challenge the election of Miguel Romero as mayor for the alleged existence irregularities.
According to the Court’s ruling, the application is rejected “because it did not meet the jurisdictional deadline set in the 2020 Electoral Code to serve the contested candidate”.
That is, Natal did not summon the contested candidate within the five-day deadline set by the new Electoral Code.
“We acknowledge that we are facing a new issue, but in spite of all the above and if it were understood that our interpretation of the terms of the 2020 Electoral Code is very restrictive and that these terms should be considered as strictly compliant. the petitioner did not comply with such requirements “, the sentence states.
On January 21, Romero filed a motion for dismissal due to lack of jurisdiction over the person. In his statement, Romero Lugo limited himself to arguing the lack of jurisdiction over the person because he was not summoned according to the provisions of the Electoral Code.
Natal claimed that there are more votes cast than the number of people who validly voted in Unit 77 in San Juan and called for a new election for mayor of San Juan to be ordered only in Unit 77, which says that it is justified by the alleged irregularities.
