Treasury Department Secretary Francisco Parés Alicea provided an update this afternoon on sending the $ 600 incentive check to families in Puerto Rico, of whom 200,000 have already received the deposit.
According to Parés Alicea, about $ 190 million was distributed today on the first day of direct deposits.
As for the rest of the people who should receive the benefit, the Deputy Secretary of Internal Revenue of the Treasury, Roxanna Santiago, assured that the distribution plan stipulates that the $ 600 will be sent to 200 thousand families daily.
“Yesterday 200,000 were sent, today another 200,000 deposits will be sent and so on, the plan is to reach 2.8 million families in three to four weeks,” Santiago said.
In turn, the Secretary of the Treasury explained that the agency has about 30 days to complete the payments to all citizens, which so far would count the 2.8 million people mentioned by the Assistant Secretary.
Parés Alicea assured that this was a “historic day for the Treasury Department” due to the record time in which payments began to be processed.
In addition, he stated that 95% of those who requested payment would receive it directly without having to take any action. He also reminded that to the extent that people previously received the incentive control of $ 1,200, this second payment will come directly.
In the immediate future, the secretary assured that in the next few days about $ 600 million will be paid to about 700,000 families who were randomly selected by the agency’s technical team.
