The total number of cases in Florida rises to over 1.25 million after the holidays

ORLANDO, Fla. – The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Florida has risen by 7,000 and up, health officials said Sunday.

The new cases reported on Sunday brought the state’s figure to over 1.25 million since the outbreak began earlier this year.

More than 21,200 florists have now died from COVID-19 – with more than 70 new deaths added to the death toll on Sunday.

The number of people tested for COVID-19 has been considerably lower in the last two days and it remains to be seen whether or not the Christmas weekend gatherings will increase the number of infections in the state – as was the case after the Thanksgiving holiday.

More than 171,000 people were tested for the virus on Friday and Saturday – dramatically lower than the 343,000 tested in the previous two days.

More than 6,300 people were hospitalized on Sunday because of the virus, according to the state Department of Health.

Cases

The Florida Department of Health reported 7,391 new cases on Sunday, bringing the state total to 1,271,979 cases since March. New cases include totals on Thursday and Friday.

Florida reported 77 new virus deaths Sunday. That means at least 21,514 people have died from coronavirus in the entire state, including 302 non-residents who died in Florida.

hospitalization

Since Sunday afternoon, there is at the moment 5912 people with the virus hospitalized in Florida, according to the State Agency for Healthcare Administration.

From March, 61,459 people were hospitalized in Florida after complications caused by coronavirus. This number includes the 171 people who were recently hospitalized due to the virus, according to the daily report of the health department.

Positivity rate

The percentage of positive results varied from 7.88% to 9.83% in the last two weeks and was 9.69% on Saturday.

vaccinations

The Florida Department of Health recently began launching a daily report on statewide COVID-19 vaccines. As of Sunday, 118,764 people had been vaccinated in Florida.
