United States President Joe Biden informed his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin that “the moment for de-escalation has come.” after Washington announced new sanctions against Moscow

The United States announced retaliation for what it considers “destabilizing international actions”, including allegations that, as in 2016, Moscow interfered in the 2020 US presidential election, with digital disinformation campaigns.

Biden called the measures ‘a measured and proportional response’ what he described as hostile actions by Moscow.

The American President estimated that direct communication with Putin could build a ‘more effective relationship’ and affirmed that the Russian leader agreed with this statement.

Biden stated that The summit proposed by Putin could take place in Europe this summer and that it would be an opportunity to “initiate a dialogue on strategic stability”.

Putin has yet to respond, however The president indicated that the teams are discussing this possibility “now”
