DETROIT – Akil Baddoo had another key success in starting the dream of his major league career, and the Detroit Tigers defeated the Minnesota Twins 4-3 in 10 innings on Tuesday night.
Baddoo hit an RBI single at the bottom of the 10th. He made his debut on Sunday and hit a round on his first pitch.
On Monday, he hit a big slam in a game that Detroit lost 15-6 to the twins. Rookie entered the game on Tuesday as a top runner, stayed on the field to play as an outfielder and came to define with a shot on the right field against Hansel Robles (0-1).
Baddoo, 22, was acquired by the Tigers from Gemini in December in accordance with rule 5 of the draft of players excluded from the 40-man list.
Written by Minnesota in the second round of the draft in 2016, Baddoo never played above the A-Class until this year. In four minor seasons, he hit 0.249.
Last year, the minor league season was canceled due to the pandemic.
Nelson Cruz and Byron Buxton made a homer for the twins.
The victory went to the Dominican Gregory Soto (1-0), who worked two innings without a score.
