Blancas tested positive for the virus on October 20 and was hospitalized a few days later, her brother Times explained. Eventually he ran out of sick leave and paid for his free time and turned to the internet for help paying for healthcare with a GoFundMe page.
“Her call was just to spread goodness,” Cristina Sanchez-Chavira told the Times. “I think education was the vehicle he found, but that was it. She embodied kindness and makes others feel special. And he did it in and out of class. “
Blancas, otherwise healthy, had shown signs of recovery at first and was making progress before her condition worsened. She was intubated on November 22, her brother told CNN.
