The Texans want to adjust David Johnson’s contract

While Duke Johnson is out of the image of Texans in 2021, they still have David Johnson under contract. And the maximum number of the former All-Pro has dropped by almost $ 3 million from where it was in 2020.

However, Texans still want to reduce the number of their incumbents, notes Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. Entering the final season of his contract built by the Cardinals, Johnson will calculate $ 8.5 million against the Texans’ ceiling in 2021. This number is sixth among runners.

The Texans made David Johnson the centerpiece of a trade that most observers immediately criticized when they bought it in a deal that sent DeAndre Hopkins to books. But Nick Caserio he was obviously not involved in that controversial swap. The new GM has already reduced several key initiatives or contributions – including Duke Johnson, Nick Martin and JJ Watt – So seeing that the Texans are trying to save $ 6 million plus by cutting David Johnson would be particularly surprising.

In his first Texan season, David Johnson collected 1,005 yards in 12 games. Johnson, who spent time on IR due to a concussion, increased his transportation average from 3.7 in his last season in Arizona to 4.7 in 2020. Despite joining the NFL in 2015, Johnson will turn 30 for years this year.

The six-year veteran is guaranteed $ 2.1 million in the contract and would be interested in staying with the Texans for a second season, for Wilson. It may have to agree to a pay cut to do so, although the parties may agree to an extension that would reduce its ceiling figure in 2021.
