Gab, a far-right social network that exploded in popularity after the US Chapter riots, was offline on Friday night, and his Twitter account also darkened.
Twitter users started posting that site first and his associated social media account dropped around 6:30 p.m., Eastern Time.
At least one Twitter user who claimed to be Gab just before dark on Friday night, he speculated that the site had been hacked as part of a cryptocurrency scam. Post could not verify this theory.

“Due to our swift action, zero bitcoin was sent to any of the addresses posted and the affected accounts were secured,” the statement said.
A “security vulnerability” has been added to the site’s code base.
Gab was deactivated in 2018 by his host after the suspect in the Pittsburgh synagogue massacre posted anti-Semitic scandals and conspiracy theories. Then he started accepting cryptocurrencies for payments to bypass technology companies.
